UK Based Oxitec has announced plans to release GMO mosquitoes into the wild in South America to help combat and eradicate mosquito born diseases like Zika. Oxitec promised the modified insects were unable to reproduce would pose no long term effects, except Natural News found something else.
A study published in the science journal Nature showed that not only were the mosquitoes able to reproduce, they have since mutated, carrying genes that make them insecticide resistant. They also failed to prevent the spread of diseases like Zika to boot.
As Nature found “The results of our tests of the infectivity of one strain each of the dengue and Zika viruses in females of the OX513A strain and the Jacobina natural population (before releases) indicate no significant differences”
