The volcano, located on Italy’s Stromboli island, erupted at 12:17PM local time on Wednesday according to officials. The volcano had been closed to tourists in the previous weeks due to seismic activity.

Tourists quickly shared photos and video of the eruption on social media.

The Stromboli volcano is one of the most active in the world. Earlier this summer it had a major eruption, killing a hiker who was from a falling rock.
